The GK3 range of resin printers from Uniformation generated a lot of excitement and some controversy when it was released. Following the success of the GK2, the manufacturer promised significant improvements in both technical and functional terms. I finally got the chance to test the GK3T, the “consumer” version of the GK3 range, and here's what I think.
A Diverse Range
The GK3 is available in several models: GK3T, GK3B, GK3 Pro, and GK3 Ultra. The GK3T, which I received, is the most affordable of the range. It differs from the GK3B primarily in its Z-axis movement system. While the T version uses a traditional trapezoidal screw, the B adopts a ball screw (biscrew) system, which is smoother, more precise, and more durable, but also more expensive.
The GK3 Pro stands out with its 385 nm light source and the use of high-transparency screens. The GK3 Ultra, on the other hand, offers a generous build volume of 30 x 30 x 16 cm and always uses the biscrew system.
Technical specifications and features
Despite its more affordable price point, the GK3 is packed with features:
- Built-in camera for print tracking
- Mobile app (although the user experience could be improved)
- Foldable touchscreen with a clear, customizable interface
- Hinged cover, pre-equipped with carbon filters
- Resin heating and preheating system
- Factory-calibrated tray with integrated drip tray
- Automatic filling system with reusable bottle
In terms of dimensions, allow for approximately 85 cm in height to operate the cover opening and refill system. In width and depth, allow for 39 cm. These dimensions make it fairly compact for a well-equipped resin printer.
A polished user experience
Setup is simple: the printer is pre-calibrated, there are numerous accessories (replacement film, manual, tools, gloves, etc.), and the interface is accessible even for inexperienced users. It's a shame that some documentation is only available in English, but the illustrations are often sufficient to understand.
- I tested several slicers with this machine:
- Uniformation Slicer, based on PrusaSlicer, practical for homemade resins but not very ergonomic.
- Lychee Slicer, my favorite choice for its ease of use.
- Chitubox, which allows a direct network connection with the GK3 and efficient remote management via Chitu Manager.
Print results
I started with a multi-exposure calibration test. The model provided allows you to quickly adjust exposure times according to the resin used. After a few adjustments, I launched a print of a pre-supported figurine from the Lychee library. The result was very good: sharp details, no visible defects, and simplified post-processing thanks to the integrated drip tray.
The automatic filling system works well and avoids unnecessary handling of the resin. Compatibility with all resins is ensured by filling the supplied bottle with the resin of your choice.
Positive points and areas for improvement
What I liked:
- Easy to set up
- Full of practical features (heating, hinged lid, drip tray)
- Good build quality
- Very comprehensive bundle included with delivery
- Accurate printing results right from the first attempts
What could be improved:
- Unstable mobile app (the device was not detected)
- Tray capacity (800 ml) a little small
- Limited connectivity with some slicers such as Lychee
Conclusion
The Uniformation GK3 is an excellent upgrade from the GK2. Well-equipped, stable, and easy to configure, it offers a smooth, high-quality resin printing experience. If you print regularly but not intensively, the T version is more than enough. For professional or very intensive use, the GK3B or Ultra version may be worth considering.
I personally really liked this printer. It ticks almost all the boxes for serious hobbyist use. It remains to be seen how it will evolve with future software updates.
